KIGALI - From sleek electric vehicles and global jewelry to a dizzying array of cutting-edge manufactured goods, the 29th Rwanda International Trade Fair (Expo 2026) has once again transformed the Gikondo Expo Grounds into a bustling epicenter of continental commerce. Running for 21 dynamic days from July 28 to August 17, 2026, this year's edition has officially cemented the annual exhibition’s remarkable evolution. What started in 1978 as a modest local showcase inaugurated by the Ministry of Commerce has blossomed into East Africa’s most influential multi-sectoral business event. Organized by the Private Sector Federation (PSF) in close partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM), Expo 2026 drew massive crowds, high-level officials, and an unprecedented lineup of international players.

A Grand Official Opening Rooted in Partnership The exhibition was officially opened by top government representatives, spotlighting the enduring partnership between the state and the private sector. Minister of Trade and Industry Antoine Marie Kajangwe, accompanied by key officials, toured the vibrant exhibition grounds.

Minister Kajangwe stopped at numerous stalls to interact directly with vendors, learning firsthand about the creative engineering and production behind their goods. Among the standout attractions was a pioneering technology company founded by brilliant alumni of the University of Rwanda’s College of Science and Technology, showcasing how local youth are driving the nation's digital and industrial future.

Expanding Horizons: A Continental Presence Rwanda utilized Expo 2026 to aggressively reinforce its ambition of becoming one of Africa’s leading trade and investment destinations. The exhibition successfully expanded its geographical footprint, bringing together businesses from across Africa and beyond to tap into the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). According to PSF leadership, the expo has transcended standard exhibitions to become a vibrant platform promoting innovation, investment, and sustainable economic growth.

Record Numbers and Unmatched Diversity This year’s 21-day event brought together nearly 500 exhibitors from over 20 countries, welcoming massive waves of daily visitors. A walk through the Gikondo grounds proved to be a global shopping and networking experience. Visitors explored products from various international markets alongside homegrown innovations. From heavy machinery, construction materials, and renewable energy solutions to agricultural breakthroughs and consumer electronics, the variety was staggering. Electric vehicles (EVs) also returned to steal the spotlight, capturing the public’s imagination following their growing popularity in previous editions. More Than Just Business: A Community Hub Beyond corporate networking, B2B meetings, and investment forums, Expo 2026 remained a beloved family tradition. Children enjoyed entertainment zones, while food vendors catered to every craving. Crucially, government bodies utilized the massive captive audience to bring essential services closer to citizens: • The Rwanda National Police (RNP) actively demonstrated fire safety and public protection protocols. • The National Identity Agency (NID) set up bustling service desks to register citizens and issue documentation.
